Fun day trips to do before the end of summer
There are lots of amazing things to do in Nanaimo and the surrounding areas that can be done in just a day before the summer comes to an end.
1. Head south and visit the Cowichan Valley! Check out some of our local wineries, and even a cidery! In the Cowichan Valley you can also experience Cowichan Lake for a dip on a hot day and explore the town of Lake Cowichan.
2. Go whale Watching. Hop on a boat and explore the coast! You can see a variety of whales including Orcas, as well as porpoises, harbour seals, sea lions and bald eagles!
3. Visit Chemainus! Tour the town and experience the amazing murals in this coastal community.
4. Head to the Kinsol Trestle. A short hike takes you to one of the world’s tallest freestanding timber trestles. This 1920s structure is 614 feet long and 145 feet tall and you can walk across and look down at the Koksilah River below.
5. Visit Coombs! Check out the Old Country Market and see the goats on the roof. Visit shops and restaurants and enjoy the day strolling around.
6. Head North to see and enjoy giant Douglas Fir trees that are over 800 years old in Cathedral Grove in MacMillan Provincial Park. With many trails to explore you can spend lots of time here.
7. Check out the the Horne Lake Caves. Book a tour and check out these incredible caves and formations.
