Headed for Harbour City
Moving to Nanaimo is a question many people have had especially lately! Population in Nanaimo Regional District has steadily been increasing and it’s no surprise as to why. Nanaimo is a wonderful city, offering a great lifestyle for both retirees and families looking for a safe West Coast Community. Nanaimo, also known as the Harbour City, offers incredible outdoor activities, tons of family friendly spaces and so much more!
Nanaimo used to be known for coal and timber but today it’s known for outdoor recreation, tourism, education and retirement. Nanaimo is the second-largest city on Vancouver Island but is easily accessible to many other gulf islands so exploration of this area is easy! It also boasts one of the most temperate climates in all of Canada. The winter months average temperatures around 8ºC, while the summer months rarely rise above 25ºC. Rainfall from late October through April is standard, snow is infrequent and melts very quickly after it falls, while sunshine is abundant in the summer months from May through September.
In Nanaimo much of the waterfront is public so you can easily enjoy the incredible ocean. Even better, Nanaimo is surrounded by incredible fresh water lakes and rivers to enjoy in water sports or just to enjoy nature! Home to many parks and trails it’s the perfect place if you enjoy hiking or walking and getting out into the fresh air.
Being central on Vancouver Island has it’s perks too! You can ski or snowboard at Mt. Washington (or go tubing!) in just an hour and a half drive, or drive 2.5 hours and go surfing in Tofino.
Nanaimo is also home to Vancouver Island University so if you want to upgrade your own education, or live somewhere that your kids can live at home while going to university, then this is the place!
This city has that perfect small town feel that will make you feel right at home! If you are a family looking for somewhere to settle down, or looking to retire, Nanaimo has everything you could need! Connect with me if you have more questions about making Nanaimo your home!
